Dixie Cochran is a very accomplished and knowledgeable Tai Chi practitioner and instructor. As a teacher, she is clear and patient, with great attention to detail. Whenever I work with her, she is sensitive to my personal limits and goals and strives to help me reach my greatest potential. At the same time, she brings a great sense of humor and fun to every lesson.
I did 4 months of weekly intensive private lessons with Dixie. Her backyard stands in my memory as a zen oasis where I am able to leave my troubles, Austin, and the planet behind for an hour. Such a nice space to practice and such a wonderful, patient teacher. In Dixie's backyard, I discovered tai chi, and 2 years later the love affair continues.
I'm 51 years old and I had been active and fit for most of life until a major surgery on my shoulder for a pinched nerve. After more than 2 years of rehab and all sorts of related problems, my physical therapist recommended I find some way to bring some movement back into my life. I thought of Tai Chi and after speaking with her I chose Dixie Cochran as my instructor because she seemed knowledgeable and professional, and her studio's Central Austin location is convenient for me. After almost 3 months of weekly instruction, I can say that learning Tai Chi from Dixie is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. Dixie is very knowledgeable, and also an excellent teacher, and she has an infectious passion for Tai Chi. The benefits of Tai Chi that Dixie lists on her homepage are real. I've experienced a reduction in chronic pain, I have more energy and stamina, and I have an enthusiasm and optimism now that I didn't have before. I now have a passion for learning Tai Chi, and that passion has improved my life in many ways. Dixie is an ideal instructor for one-on-one learning, and I strongly recommend that if you are thinking about learning Tai Chi that you let Dixie introduce you to all that Tai Chi has to offer.
